Benjamin Boyd

Associate Attorney

Ben Boyd’s practice centers on the matters where the personal stakes tend to be highest: family law — including divorce, custody, and parenting time — real property disputes, elder abuse, and civil litigation. He also advises clients on estate planning, guardianships, conservatorships, trusts, probate, and handles real property transactions and boundary and easement disputes. The cases he finds most meaningful are custody and parenting time matters, where the outcome directly affects children. “People — especially little ones — are more important than things,” he says.

What Ben carries most consciously from his years of legal training is a habit of seeing the person behind the case, not just the legal issues. His time clerking in Wyoming’s Eighth Judicial District and working for the Alabama Supreme Court trained him in attention to detail and the discipline of a heavy caseload. It also taught him that how a lawyer sees a client shapes everything about how he serves them.

Ben, who grew up in Wallowa County, came to the law through an unusual doorway: years of reading primary sources from America’s Founding Era, and listening to Rahn Hostetter tell stories about his cases. Both left the same impression — that law, practiced well, is a noble pursuit. He worked as a judicial law clerk for Hon. Keith G. Kautz and Hon. John C. Brooks in Wyoming’s Eighth Judicial District, then served as staff attorney for Chief Justice Roy S. Moore of the Alabama Supreme Court before joining Hostetter Law Group.

“The nervousness about calling a lawyer is far less than the nervousness of dealing with a legal problem — or going to court as your own lawyer.”

Ben and his wife have six children and are members of Christ Covenant Church. Outside the office, he can usually be found at his kids’ track and cross-country meets, hunting, jogging, cutting firewood, or working on the family home in Wallowa County.
